It might be always sunny in Philadelphia, but it's frequently rainy in Edinburgh. The forecast for this weekend continues to evolve, but it appears that there will be thunderstorms on Friday and a chance of rain on Saturday. Please come prepared to cope with the elements and make provisions to proceed with the program. It may be necessary to use the campsite huts or bring canopies for the advancement sessions on Saturday morning. The games will proceed in the wet conditions unless safety becomes an issue. It's possible that the outdoor climbing activity will be suspended (no pun intended) and moved indoors to the climbing wall. And please be sure to encourage your Scouts to come prepared with raingear and a spirit of, "Let's do this thing!" The Scots have been living and cooking and competing in the rain for centuries. Can we expect any less from the Scouts? Let's plan to make it epic! Thanks again for your time, support, commitment and enthusiasm. We are planning a trip to Northern Tier to spend a week paddling, fishing, hiking, and camping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness that is managed by the federal government. Over the next week or two I will be sending out information about costs, dates, etc., but for now, I need to find out who is interested in going. The scouts listed below either expressed interest at last Monday's meeting, or I was told by one of their friends they would be interested. If you are not on this list, but would like to participate, please reply to this email and I will include you on the distribution list for any further communication. If you are on this list, please reply with email addresses you would like added to the 2015 Northern Tier Trip distribution list. Ben Curry Anton Uhren Ryan Lindsey Dylan Hurt Paul Dower Collin (I apologize for not knowing you last name. Please send it) Max Trost Davis Chappell Also, we will be needing some adults to go along (2 for every 6 scouts). If you're and adult that is interested let me know. Yours in Scouting, Wayne B. As far as I know it is at the regular time of 7:00 - if that is not correct, someone please reply to all with the correct schedule information. Also remember this is a parent participation event and you will get dinner. The Court of Honor is all about recognizing and honoring the Scouts who have earned rank and merit badge advancements since the last Court of Honor six months ago. Parents will be asked to come forward with their Scouts for the rank recognitions, so we need all the parents to attend. This is also when Moms can wear their ribbons displaying their Scout's rank advancements. All Moms get a ribbon when their Scout receives his New Scout rank, so if he is getting the New Scout rank tomorrow night then you will receive a ribbon. It is also a good opportunity for the parents to meet some of the adult leaders and also a good opportunity to find an area where you can volunteer to assist the entire troop. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to bring side items to go along with the grilled hot dogs. It is most appreciated. However, if you did not sign up online, I'm sure it would be fine if you still want to bring something to share. As we like to say, more food is always better. We are also starting the annual rechartering process for the Troop. This is when we collect the dues and make sure we have everyone accounted for on the Troop roster that is still active. We will need to reschedule this as it is vital that we share the boy scout experience with younger scouts who are looking forward to a more challenging experience. The following weekend is the Fam Jam. We did have some interest in assisting with that. If you will please restate your commitment to that function, I will pass your information on to the organizer for that function. Neither I nor Ben will be able to attend, but it would be great to have Troop 85 assist the cub scouts with what used to be Mom & Me. It is a shooting program open to kids 10-19 years old ranging from first time beginners to competitive shooters. Youth are given coaching instruction every Saturday morning at the Tulsa Gun Club from November to April. If anyone is interested in learning more about it or visiting one of the Saturday practices, there is information in the email below, or you can ask me or Wynne about it. It's a great opportunity for scouts to learn gun safety and shotgun shooting! Youth between ages 10-19 are welcome to join us so please let your friends know that the SCTP program will introduce them to the shooting sports in a way they may not have known was available. We will be focusing with the more experienced shooters on shooting competitively so they can attend some of the numerous registered shoots around Oklahoma next year. > > Each practice you will need to be sure to bring eye and hearing protection as well as your shotgun. If you need to borrow a shotgun, we will have numerous ?loaner? youth shotguns available for you to learn to shoot. If you are a new shooter this year, plan to shoot about 50 targets at each practice session. More experienced shooters can plan to shoot 75-100 targets during a practice. As they have in the past, the Green Country Friends of the NRA and the NRA Foundation have generously provided us with ammunition and targets for our practices. > > We will have 2-3 practice sessions before I hand out the enrollment forms to be completed for this year.
