From paul at marshstudios.com Thu Apr 2 20:34:46 2015 From: paul at marshstudios.com (Paul Marsh) Date: Thu, 2 Apr 2015 20:34:46 -0500 Subject: [Bsa-troop85] Recruiting Open House - Tuesday April 7 at 7PM Message-ID: Troop 85 has a great opportunity to recruit new boys to join our troop. Tuesday, April 7 at Park Plaza Church of Christ, Eagle District is hosting an Open House. Participating troops will set up tables promoting their troops and talk with boys who are interested in joining. At the troop meeting on Monday, several boys showed interest in participating. We don?t need everybody, but a good showing of a handful of scouts to help man our table would be ideal. This is an event where the boys should wear their regular Class A (no scarf necessary) just like at a troop meeting. We will be setting up at 6:30 in the Gym at Park Plaza Church of Christ (West of Sheridan on 51st) and the event lasts from 7-8PM. If your son can help with this event, please send a message to let me know. We will remind them at the Monday troop meeting again. Also, I will be putting together a computer slideshow and some poster prints of our troop activities, so if you have great photos you?d like to share, please email them to me. There are still some boys that are needing to do Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review, Also, there may be a few boys trying to finish up merit badges and would need an adult to review the merit badge work. Parents who are available, please come to the meeting and help us out, that would be appreciated! The Spring Court of Honor will be on April 13, at 7PM at St. James. Parents and families, please come and be recognized with your son, and come mingle with other parents over dessert after the event. The scouts will be bringing dessert and drinks, and we should be done at regular time, around 8:30. Also, please remember about our Scouts Open House on Tuesday at Park Plaza Church of Christ. Available boys please meet at 6:30 at Park Plaza in their normal Scout uniform, and we should be done between by 8:15. MAY 8-10 CAMPOUT - ROARING RIVER STATE PARK (Cassville, MO) This campout has been re-scheduled for a week earlier so it doesn?t keep the boys from studying the weekend before finals. Roaring River is a fabulous state park in Missouri, and is known for its premiere trout fishing. Parents who haven?t joined us for a campout yet, this is your chance! We hope to have a good showing of dads (and moms) to come and fish with us. Small fees for daily fishing licenses and daily tags will apply. My wife, Wynne, will be staying in our camper and we have a large RV campsite reserved right on the river. This site will serve as a home base for activities during the day on Saturday. The scouts and leaders will be camping in a special use area which is a 15-20 minute walk from the river. It is shaping up to be a great trip! This is assistant scoutmaster Wayne Evans. The following is a late plea for help with our root beer stand at the Jenks Herb and Plant Festival next weekend. For those not familiar with this troop tradition; the Jenks Garden Club and Troop 85 have an arrangement whereby we assist the garden club with setting up and tearing down for the festival each year. In exchange, they provide us a space, at no charge, where we can sell soft drinks as a fundraiser for the troop. In recent years, the money raised thru the root beer stand has been designated for summer high adventure trips. This fundraiser has always been a total troop effort, however, this is the first year I've been the one responsible for making it happen. I'm afraid I've neglected to properly promote it, and now find myself scrambling to find the help we need. Here is the schedule of activities we will need assistance with (If you are part of this summer's high adventure pay close attention I left out some stuff in my recent email): Friday April 24th at 5pm. We will meet near the Tedford Insurance office 121 E. Main St. to help the garden club and miscellaneous vendors set up. This primarily involves unloading and distributing tables and chairs up and down Main St. Saturday April 25th 7:00am. We will meet at the same location to set up the pop-up, fill coolers, and do whatever else needs to be done in order to begin selling drinks at 8am. The festival runs until 4pm, so we will need scouts to volunteer throughout the day. We will also need some adults to be on hand throughout the day. We will be selling drinks at the pop-up as well as with a mobile concession (2 or 3 scouts pulling a wagon). Somewhere between 3 and 4pm we will begin helping the garden club gather up tables and chairs, and reload them on the truck. I apologize for the late notice, and I ask that everyone consider helping out however they can. I mainly want to be sure we do not jeopardize our relationship with the Jenks Garden Club, as the root beer stand has been a terrific fundraiser for the troop. Our goal this year is to raise $1000.00, so pray for some hot sunny weather. I will be at tomorrow evening's troop meeting with a sign-up sheet for those that can join us next weekend. Please feel free (read: compelled) to call or reply to this if you have questions or would like to offer assistance. Thanks everyone. Wayne B. Subject: [Bsa-troop85] Annual Root Beer Stand Fundraiser
Hey Troop 85! This fundraiser has always been a total troop effort, however, this is the first year I?ve been the one responsible for making it happen. I?m afraid I?ve neglected to properly promote it, and now find myself scrambling to find the help we need. Here is the schedule of activities we will need assistance with (If you are part of this summer?s high adventure pay close attention I left out some stuff in my recent email): Friday April 24th at 5pm. I will be at tomorrow evening?s troop meeting with a sign-up sheet for those that can join us next weekend. I'm afraid that is the wrong time. Vendors cannot begin setting up until 7pm. That's when they shut down Main St. I really don't know why I thought it was at 5. Anyway, we still need as many scouts and adults as possible. Hopefully, this will allow for more people to participate. Thanks everyone. We will be going to Roaring River State Park in Missouri. This is a popular state park on the White River and is a Trout fishing paradise. I want to start early and plan for the adults who will be joining us. I will need an adult to help by driving the troop trailer down on Friday with the boys. My wife and I will be heading down early with our camper and setting up the campsite headquarters by the river. If you are available and could help that weekend, we will definitely make it worth your while. Please email me back to let me know. I really appreciate all of the parents that have been pitching in to help lately. It really has been great! Thanks! Looks like we cleared $930.00, which is as good or better than we've done in recent years. Prayers were definitely answered with regard to the weather. I don't think we could have had a better day. Special thanks to all of those who are not yet old enough to go on high adventure trips, but came out and worked hard to help us raise travelling money for this summer. An even more special thanks to their parents. Keep up the good work Troop 85! YIS Wayne B.
