Hi all,

So the Troop 85 Campfire was a great success last night.  Well, at least one of them was.  The Senior Patrol Leaders organized a fire building competition between the two patrols (The Hobbit Patrol and the Armored Turtle Patrol--and yes they do have patches for those).  The Hobbit Patrol (I think) was the only one to get their fire started.  Eventually the Senior Patrol jumped in to help the other patrol and were able to build up their fire higher, despite a 30 minute time gap and then burned through the rope (set about 3 feed off the ground) first.  As one of these fine leaders said "It was an epic comeback."

Dinner last night was very popular.  I think it was pepperoni goulash.  When they offered seconds there was a stampede.  And speaking of popular food, breakfast consisted of corn dogs and fruit loops.  The Breakfast of Champions.  Actually, though they looked like corn dogs, they were actually sausages on a stick surrounded by waffle batter.  It came with syrup.  The new Taco Bell breakfasts have nothing on this.

We picked up a Scout yesterday, Zach Neuhaus.  He's settled in great and was involved in the campfire entertainment.  My personal favorite part of that campfire was Hudson Harder trying to tell a ghost story about "The woman with the golden arm" but he kept saying "leg" instead of "arm" so the scary part kind of went away and it became a humorous horror story.  Keith Troost, after a fine few days of service, abandoned us last night and now we have Paul Marsh to help guide these fine young men.  All the Troop 85 leaders here (Mike Abels and Robert Curry) are great guys to be with and are really doing a good job with the kids.

The boys are all now off doing things and learning stuff.  Weather is beautiful if warm.  Several care packages arrived today.

More updates later.

Yours in Scouting,

--David
